Emerging Market Stock Picks, Tweets & Podcasts (December 2023)
Look beyond Chinese growth stocks, small & midsized Indian infrastructure + railway stock picks, Canada listed mining stocks focused on Latin America, up-and-coming helium-LNG stock, etc.
We have a variety of emerging market stock picks to highlight for the end of December (among other stocks also getting mentions late on in this post) with some quick takes being:
A couple of Singapore listed stocks the subject of recent up or downgrades by local brokers.
A recently listed Indian fashion stock that has "a lot of headroom" to grow in India before venturing overseas plus a recent Twitter thread detailing one of the big IT services stocks.
A dozen+ small and midsized Indian infrastructure stocks that are positioned to profit from the upcoming elections and associated infrastructure spending.
Several Indian railway related stocks that will benefit from the modernization of Indian Railway. Five of these stocks already have YTD returns between 100-200%+.
An Indian shipyard and shipbuilding stock that will benefit from Indian government efforts in the space.
Six Indian stock picks from the financial, cement, oil & gas, mining and pharma sectors. All have recently performed well and are said to have more upside in 2024.
Several South African stocks that had been top picks for 2023 and have put in a varied performance.
A helium and LNG stock that could become a global leader in helium production.
Some Canada listed mining stocks focused on Latin America (Mexico and Ecuador) and their detailed presentations from a recent European mining conference.
An updated analysis about a Colombian stock covered by one of our tear sheets earlier this year.
Since its the quiet period at the end of the year and moving forward, fund focused posts will be emailed around the beginning of the week only to paid subscribers and focus on funds, fund managers, their research pieces and stock picks, and other related materials as they get posted (EM Fund Stock Picks & Country Commentaries (December 28, 2023)). This means their bullet proof summaries will contain direct links to some of the more interesting material covered later in the post (to save you time) which will also note whether updated monthly or quarterly factsheets and commentaries have been posted on fund websites.
Other interesting tweets, podcasts, research, articles, etc. ideally mentioning emerging market stock picks (with added company descriptions, technical charts, forward P/E and dividend yields, etc.) or other relevant info for EM investors will go in a separate post and mostly pay walled post later in the week - depending on the amount of material I come across (as Twitter still contains too much garbage, it’s a bit easier to navigate YouTube, etc.).
One recent tweet covered in this post worth mentioning observed how China is a fundamentally different economy today, but investors are still enamored with the growth stocks of yesterday (aka the big tech names, etc.). The tweet concluded by saying that China is completely uninvestable at a macro level; but as the world’s second largest economy, there will always be investible pockets.
In other words, you need to dig for fresh investment ideas there and (I would further add…) in other markets (like India where many stocks trade for a premium) as well.
