If you build it, you must maintain it. What happens when land use rights start to decay? Does Beijing even know what the real numbers are (b/c “heaven is high and the Emperor is far away")? etc.

True but just remember lease values from any university accounting or finance class: The values will peak and start falling long before the end of the lease. That's what is starting to happen in Singapore. Now imagine that on a much bigger scale... Local chinese govts need to find a new and more stable way to raise revenue rather than land lease sales e.g. property taxes like in the West...
Oh yes. Don’t worry, by lots to get through I was thinking about deflation, middle income trap, Taiwan, shrinking population. All to deal with before those leases really bite!
